Days on the Bookmyshow Internet platform eliminated stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra and removed his name from the list of artists in the middle of a massive series over his jokes against the leader of Shiv Sen Ekath Shinde, people set out on social media using hashtag #boycottbookmyshow to express their decision.
Several shared screenshots show them that they will uninstall the ticket for sale, while others urged “democratic citizens” to follow the action. “I decided to boycott @Bookmyshow to remove all @kunalkamra88 shows from their platform. I invite all the democratic citizens of India who appreciate our constitution to join me in the #Boycottbookmyshow movement,” the user wrote.
When the camera responded to a boycott call, she said: “I am not a boycott fans or a private business for the audience. Bookmyshow is to do what is best for my business.”
Camr’s open letter
A stand-up comed wrote an open letter and asked the bookmyshow to give the contact information of the members of the audience that they gathered from his performance to “live his life with dignity”.
“What I ask is simple: make sure you hand over the contact information of the audience you gathered from my solo shows to live my life with dignity and work on a fair living,” Kamra said in a social media report.
Bookmyshow reaction
Bookmyshow replied to the controversy and said it was “a platform to facilitate the sale of tickets and operates a business with neutrality and in accordance with valid Indian laws”.
“The facts concerning our role have been distorted in the public domain. Our task is to provide a platform for the sale of tickets on live programs; the organizer’s decision or venue is stated or discarded,” the company explained.
