The leaders of various progressive organizations, activists, elected Hassan representatives and officers joined hand on Monday to felicitate the writers and advocates of Ban Mushtaq, who recently won the International Booker Award for his collection of stories translated into English, Heart Lamp.
Baragur Ramacandrappa said the Booker International Prize was the honor of Kannada’s intellect. “Mrs. Mushtaq wrote stories in Cannada and Deep Bhasthi translated them into English. Both writers deserve recognition,” he said.
The district has a distinction between the first inscription Kannada found in the village of Halmidi in Belur Taluk and the first international Booker Prize for Cannad.
“Musthaq wrote stories she chose from the world around her. The prize she won is the recognition of her involvement in the struggles for the emancipation of the working class, women, Dalits and all sections of reduced.
Musthaq said that India was known for diversity and was the duty of each individual to follow this (diversity). “Literature is one of the powers that celebrate diversity and thus keep the country unified,” she said.
The price, as she said, was not only for her contribution to literature. “I took part in protests and fighting for social justice and equality. My writing is not separated from these activities. I consider this price to recognize all such activities,” said Mrs. Mushtaq.
HS Anupama, the writer, spoke of Mrs. Mushtaq’s contributions. Member of Lok Sabha Shreyas M. Patel, MLA Swaroop Prakash, Deputy Commissioner C. Satyabham, Police Head Mohammed Sujeetha, Dharmesh of CPM, Kannada Sahitya Parishat District President Hl Mallesh Gowda.
Previously, the writer was transported to the venue of the program in Hasanamba Kalakshertra in the parade from the deputy commissioner.
