The Indian Regulatory Office for Economic Regulation of Airports (AERA) granted the approval of the Adani Group-gobally to the Bombai Limited International Airport, which operates a country’s financial capital to impose a higher charge for user development (UDF) for international passengers compared to international economic class, within 2028-29.
In a statement issued on Thursday, as stated by the business standard, Aera said MIAL can choose UDF £615 on each passenger of the International Class International Economy and £695 on each departure international business class, starting on 16 May. For the arrival of international passengers will be UDF £260 for an economy class and £304 for a business class.
Previously uniform UDF £187 was accused of all international passengers, regardless of class. “This adjustment is coped with the principle of” users “and reflects improved experience with passengers and upgraded devices available and used by international travelers,” Aera said.
The revised UDF will be applicable from May 16, 2025 to 31. March 2029, which means the end of the fourth control period.
In addition, Aero allowed Miala to start charging UDF from home passengers. The rate was set at £175 for each departed home traveler and £158 for each coming.
No UDF was stored on the home passenger during the previous check period. MIAL, however, collected a “development fee” £120 from each departing domestic passenger, practice that will continue until August 2024.
Aera mentioned that even the “non-major” airports choose UDF £745 on board for passengers for home flight. The airport is classified as “non-major” if less than 3.5 million passengers are processed every year.
“Given the scope of operation and requirements for investment at the Airport in Mumbai, which is the financial capital of the country, the Office is considered to be reasonable and consistently recruit a certain part of the requirements of aggregated revenues from the home UDF,” Aera added.
UDF was “set nominally” for domestic passengers who represent 75 % of the total foot at the airport in Mumbai. This step underlines “the commitment to protect the interests of passengers, ensure availability and promote growth in the domestic air sector”.
