NASA Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore shared insight into their long -term stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS) after returning to Earth. Their expedition, originally planned as an eight -day mission, lasted 286 days due to technical problems with the Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.
Astronauts were forced to stay on ISS after Starliner’s Thruster did not work during his approach. NASA and Boeing considered it dangerous to return the crew using a spacecraft, leading to an extended stay that attracted national attention.
Responsibility to delay
When Wilmore was asked about responsibility, he acknowledged that both Boeing and NASA share responsibility.
“Is Boeing to blame? Sure. Is it to blame? Sure. Everyone has a bit. In the tests and preparations we have anticipated were shortcomings,” Fox News said.
He also admitted personal responsibility and said, “There are many questions that as the CFT commander (flight test) I have not asked, so I am guilty. I admit it to the nation.”
Rather than dealing with past mistakes, Wilmore emphasized learning from experience: “Could you show your fingers? I don’t want to show your fingers. I hope no one wants to show your fingers. We don’t want to look back. We want to look forward and say – to fix what we have learned.”
“Stuck” in space?
Wilmore was speculating that they were abandoned or stuck in space, clarified his situation.
“Well, in some ways we were stuck. We may have been stuck in some ways,” he admitted. “But we weren’t stuck in the big scheme of things because we were ready and trained.”
Role SpaceX when bringing them back
Astronauts expressed gratitude for the involvement of Musk and President Donald Trump. “Our situation has made many people, including the President and Elon, to look at what is happening at the International Space Station, take it very seriously and understand that our involvement of a country like a country like a space nation is really important around the world,” Williams said.
Political reactions to a delayed return
The long -term stay of astronauts became a political point of speaking, and Trump accused President Joe Biden of abandoning them in space. 7 March Trump claimed that Muska was right to oversee their safe return.
After an extensive NASA and Boeing investigation, Elon Musk’s SpaceX Dragon Capsule, they made their departure from the ISS and successfully brought them back to the ground after their prolonged mission.
