Police in Maharashtra on Wednesday arrested a man in Thane for murdering his live-in partner and stuffing her body in a suitcase before dumping it.
According to a report by news agency PTI, the accused killed his partner, identified as 22-year-old Priyanka Vishwakarma, on November 21 after a fight and dumped her body on the bank of a stream in Thane the next day.
The victim’s body was discovered near Desai village on Monday and the initials ‘PVS’ were found tattooed on her wrist.
An investigation was subsequently launched and officers eventually arrested the suspect after tracking him down using social media and CCTV footage.
The accused has been identified as 50-year-old Vinod Srinivas Vishwakarma.
After his arrest, the accused gave more details – he confessed to the murder and shed more light on how the horrific crime unfolded.
After questioning, the police said that the victim and the accused were living together for the past five years. However, things took a dark turn on November 21 when Vinod strangled Priyanka to death after a fight.
Officials told PTI that the accused kept the victim’s body in his house for a day, but when the corpse started decomposing and the stench spread everywhere, he stuffed it in a trunk and threw it off a bridge near Desai village on the night of November 22.
The accused was arrested on Tuesday and charged with murder as well as causing evidence to disappear.
