The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) launched 320 fully electric air -conditioned buses as part of the Hrubá Freight Agreement (GCC), which will provide commuting to the International KEVEGOWDA Airport and other parts of the city.
The new fleet includes 235 buses for Vajra City Services and 85 for Vayu Vajra airport services.
In the first phase, 10 electric buses Vayu Vajra will be deployed from August 14, which will run on 11 routes connecting various parts of Bengalur with the International KECECEGOWDA Airport.

According to BMTC officials, these 12 meters, zero emissions are equipped with a battery of 283 kWh and offer a range of up to 225 km a day. Passenger friendly features include 35 high seats, access to the wheelchair, USB charging ports, CCTV cameras, panic buttons, kneeling mechanisms and voice LED target plates.
“Safety systems such as fire detection, reverse assistance for the rear camera and regenerative braking are also integrated,” the clerk said.
“Currently, 156 Vayu Vajra plans run 1,061 one -way trips daily, covering 50,776 km and serve about 14,000 passengers. It is expected that the addition of electric buses will improve comfort, reduce emissions and increase operational efficiency,” the official added.
BMTC introduced points of charging opportunities at key points, including Central Silk Board, Kadugodi Bus Stand, Depot-7 and Kia. Nine chargers with a total capacity of 240 kW were installed at P7 parking, and 1,400 kVA with high voltage was powered.
“Investing in the 1.5 GBP infrastructure from BMTC was supported by the airport authority that provided space without costs,” the clerk explained.
BMTC has an average daily rider of 44 lacquers per 6 217 buses, of which 1,535 electric vehicles.
