(Bloomberg) – The climate can move around the world agenda, but you wouldn’t know this from the view of this year’s NYC for the climate week.
The annual Confab, which coincides with the UN General Assembly, will represent more than 1,000 events in New York next week. They run Gamut from Clean Tech to adaptation and finance and have speakers, including bankers, elected officials and insurance companies.
Based on the agenda, there is a certain degree of continuity – the world must still reduce emissions – and new topics that are more important. These include artificial intelligence, national security and adaptation to the impact of climate change.
The former two are the priorities of President Donald Trump. He signed the executive orders that promote the US to expand the AI energy and energy projects that can serve both in data centers and the interests of national security.
Large technology companies also gained hundreds of billions of billions in AI, with the promise of spending billions of others. At the same time, investing in climate technology suffered a sharp decline last year. Some of this stabilization are caused, well, ai; Companies that help decarbonize data centers have managed to increase new rounds of funding and saw their shares rising. AI growing on the Week Climate Week agenda is a reflection of this new reality.
Adaptation also gains attention precisely because the world has failed to reduce emissions. Trump’s pressure to expand the use of fossil fuels and reduce clean energy deployment could further delay cuts, at least in the US. Since the cost of disasters are rising – to make one example, this year’s Los Angeles fires caused estimated losses up to $ 164 billion – it is clear that communities have to be better prepared for calamity.
