A 50-year-old Booth Level Officer (BLO) on special intensive review duty, apparently upset over being denied leave for his daughter’s wedding, reportedly ended his life at a government primary school in UP’s Fatehpur district, officials said on Sunday (March 1, 2026).
The deceased, Akhilesh Savita, was found dead in a primary school in Aliyabad village on Saturday (February 28, 2026) evening, they said.
The police said that the message left by the deceased, recovered from the spot, indicated that he was under severe stress due to the ongoing duties of the BLO associated with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise and was unable to get leave despite repeated requests.
In the suicide letter, Savita reportedly wrote that he was “tired of work” and was taking the extreme step as preparations for his daughter’s wedding, scheduled for March 8, remained incomplete due to constant official duties.
Family members rushed to the school after being informed and took him to the community health center in Bindki where doctors declared him brought dead.
The incident sparked protests at the hospital, with relatives and villagers accusing the administration of ignoring repeated requests for leave and raising slogans against officials.
Tensions escalated when the authorities tried to take custody of the body, after which angry family members carried it out of the hospital and took it to the village.
The police later pacified the family and sent the body for an autopsy.
Senior police and administrative officials, including circle officer Gaurav Sharma and the tehsildar, reached the hospital to handle the situation.
The villagers also demanded the presence of a Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and alleged that Savita’s appeals for duty exemption were being ignored.
Savita is survived by his wife Manju Devi, daughter Divyanshi, 20, whose wedding was scheduled for next week, and son Divyansh.
Family members claimed he had sought leave for a few weeks but was forced to continue election-related work.
His brother Bhupesh Kumar alleged that repeated representations were made to the officials about temporary exemption from BLO duty, but no action followed.
Wife Savita also attributed the suicide to the increasing workload of the SIR exercise and denial of leave before her daughter’s marriage.
Additional District Magistrate Avinash Tripathi said the note left behind by the deceased was being examined and further action would depend on the post-mortem findings.
Police have launched an investigation to find out the circumstances that led to the incident.
