
Explosion of the Red Keep: On 10 November, a powerful explosion in a car near Red Fort Metro station in Delhi killed at least eight people and injured 24. Witnesses said the explosion was so powerful that they felt “everyone was going to die”.
Several vehicles caught fire and sustained significant damage. The Delhi Fire Services and LNJP Hospital confirmed the death and ongoing treatment of the injured.
“When we saw someone’s hand on the road. Then we saw someone’s lung. No one could even imagine what happened,” a local told ANI.
“When we got closer, we saw body parts lying on the road. No one could tell what happened. Several cars were damaged,” said a Delhi resident.
“I have never heard such a loud explosion in my life. I fell down three times because of the explosion. It felt like the earth opened up. I left my shop and started running. Some families also started running and fell to the ground. It seemed that if there was another explosion, we would all die. I felt like I was watching death approach me,” said ANI, a local businessman.
DIG CRPF Kishor Prasad also reached the spot. When asked for details, he said: “Let me visit the place and investigate. It’s too early to say anything. I’m just going to the place. I have no idea how many people have been killed.”
A local resident said, “I saw flames burning from my house. Then I went down to see what happened. There was a massive explosion. The windows started shaking. I live near (the gurdwara).”
“We got information that there was an explosion in a car near Chandni Chowk metro station. We responded immediately and seven units were dispatched to the spot. The fire was brought under control at 7:29 pm. There are possible casualties. All our teams are present at the spot,” Deputy Fire Chief AK Malik said.
After the Delhi blast, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the Delhi Police Commissioner. According to reports, the Minister of the Interior will maintain continuous contact with the Director of the Security Service. Shah also briefed PM Modi about the development.
New Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said: “Today at around 6.52 pm, an explosion occurred in a slow-moving vehicle coming at a red light and there were passengers there. Other vehicles were hit by this.”
“All agencies have arrived, teams of Delhi Police, FSL, NIA, NSG, are taking stock of the situation. Investigation is on, you will be informed. There have been several deaths, several people have been injured and you will be informed about it. The situation is being monitored regularly. The Home Minister is being informed regularly,” he added.
UP is on high alert
Uttar Pradesh has been put on high alert following an explosion near Gate 1 of Red Fort Metro station in Delhi. UP Law and Order ADG Amitabh Yash informed ANI that the DGP has directed all senior officers to increase security in sensitive religious places, key neighborhoods and border areas.
All security agencies and district police have been put on alert. In Lucknow, the state capital, authorities have ordered increased patrolling and checks in sensitive areas.
