All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary KC Venugopal accused the BJP of spreading empty propaganda over the Vande Mataram song and warned that the party’s actions over the past decade would eventually expose its true motives.
Addressing the media here on Monday, Mr. Venugopal said that Vande Mataram is not recited in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) shakhas. According to him, the BJP is trying to misinterpret the song in connection with the Bengal elections.
The Congress president reiterated that the BJP had never shown respect to the national anthem or its author Rabindranath Tagore; nor did it have any connection with the Indian independence movement or the songs of the freedom struggle. “BJP’s main role is to distort and erase the history of India,” he said.
He said the allegations leveled by Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala about the involvement of international mafia in Sabarimala gold theft are serious. “The government is trying to divert attention from Sabarimala. They are trying to protect the culprits,” he said.
