Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in the state capital on Friday made it clear that the election agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Sangh Parivar in Kerala is purely joint.
Mr Modi had nothing to say about development achievements, the country’s future or the state’s priorities. Instead, he only made joint remarks, Mr. Satheesan said in a statement here.
The Prime Minister had every right to come to the state and participate in official and party programs. However, it was dangerous to make joint statements in a post that was decorated by many statesmen.
However, Mr. Modi and the BJP soon realized that this was a secular Kerala. Mr. Satheesan observed that the divisive politics and communalism that they tried to enforce in many states would not work here.
He emphasized that the protection of secularism is among the top priorities of the Congress, the Muslim League of India and the United Democratic Front. They did not need Mr. Modi’s endorsement for their secular stance and would protect it at any cost, Mr. Satheesan said.
