Members of the district unit of the BJP Yuva Morcha on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to Gulbarga University Vice-Chancellor Shashikant Udikeri demanding a comprehensive probe into irregularities and administrative lapses in the university and immediate declaration of the long-pending examination results.
The memorandum was presented by a delegation led by district vice-president Shiva Ashtagi, who said the university, which once enjoyed academic prominence in the Kalyana region of Karnataka, had gained attention in recent years due to “financial irregularities and mismanagement” rather than academic achievements.
According to the memorandum, the university is facing many problems, including “irregularities” related to examinations, high fees, nepotism, harassment of students in various departments, “irregularities” in the examination wing and prolonged delay in declaring B.Ed results and M.Com results of third and fourth semesters, even after more than a year since the examination.
The youth wing also flagged vacant teaching and non-teaching posts, “irregularities” regarding external employees and the impact of Lokayukta raids and multiple investigations on the reputation of the institution.
The memorandum noted that these problems have led to a decline in student enrollment and are adversely affecting the academic future of students from economically weaker parts of the region.
She blamed what she called a “deteriorating administrative system” for the situation and called on the university management to take remedial measures in the interest of the students.
Warning of intensified agitation if the issues were not addressed, Mr Ashtagi said the BJP Yuva Morcha would be forced to launch protests involving thousands of students to demand action against those responsible for the “irregularities”.
State executive committee member Preetham Patil, municipal vice-president Sourabh Rangadal, secretary Gopalakrishna Kulkarni and leaders Mallikarjun Rayappagouda, Nijagunagouda Yalagod, among others, were present when the memorandum was presented.
