Thiruvananthapuram:On Tuesday, the BJP criticized the police for the arrest of YouTuber Shajan Skaria for charging the broadcast slander content and called it a violation of the constitutional rights and freedom of the press.
The act of arresting a person at night, when he was for dinner and did not allow him to change his clothes, is proof of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) “intolerance” against constitutional rights and freedom of the press, the party said.
In a hard statement, the President of the State President BJP Rajeev Chandrasekhar, he said that the Saffron Party would never take such authoritarian measures.
“These rights are obviously violated in states of the ruling Indian alliance, which eloquently speaks of constitutional rights and freedom of expression and free press,” he said.
YouTuber Skaria was arrested on Monday evening by the Cyber Police on the basis of a complaint from a woman who claimed to broadcast slander content.
The President of the BJP state unit said that his party would not tolerate any action that would violate the constitutional rights not only of Skaria but of anyone from Kerala.
BJP will resist and beat such movements at all costs, he said.
Chandrasekhar claimed that the police had arrested Skaria at midnight to keep him in custody, and said that the police couldn’t do it.
BJP is strongly against the “police paradise” in Kerala, he added.
The woman who is currently staying abroad has filed a complaint against Shajan Skaria and accused him of “broadcasting slanderous content”.
She also issued a statement in court according to section 164 of CRPC, the police added.
After the complaint, Skaria was taken into custody of his residence, the police said.
He was accused of harmless sections 75 (1) (creating sexually colored notes) and 79 (ACTS aimed at offending the modesty of the woman) of the law Bharatiya nyaya Sanhit (BNS), said the Keral (KP) Act.
YouTuber was released on bail by court later, the sources supplied.
