Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Nitin Nabin on Monday (June 22, 2026) hit out at the Punjab government, saying the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab, rising gangsterism, drug menace and youth migration have become serious problems for both the state and the nation.
“Just as BJP workers in West Bengal have worked tirelessly to strengthen the party and pave the way for political transformation, BJP workers in Punjab must also devote themselves wholeheartedly to forming a ‘twin engine’ government to free the state from these problems,” he said in Ludhiana at a meeting of state officials, current and former members of parliament and district party presidents, MLAs.
The BJP president was on a three-day visit to Punjab ahead of the 2027 assembly polls.
Mr. Nabin said, “In West Bengal, we have seen that government and goonda culture has become a big problem for people. Similarly, Punjab is also witnessing the rise of government and corporate culture that has become a serious problem for ordinary citizens, where people are allegedly forced to pay money to do their legitimate work.”
He said the BJP must face this corrupt nexus through sustained public struggle and set up a “twin engine” government without which the political and industrial revival of Punjab would remain difficult.
The BJP national president emphasized that the expansion of the party organization is not only the responsibility of the state president or the general secretary of the organization but the collective responsibility of all party leaders.
He also advised the party to soon launch a major nationwide campaign against the drug network that has spread across Punjab.
