A rally in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday (April 30, 2026) saw heated exchanges between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition benches over the amendment to the Women’s Reservation Act, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath alleging that the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Congress had tried to divert attention from women’s political rights and women’s religious rights.
The SP has accused the BJP of misleading people on the issue of women’s reservation. After a discussion during the one-day special session on women empowerment, a condemnation motion against the parties opposing the Nari Shakti Vandan amendment was passed by voice vote.
