BJP MLA from manipuro on Tuesday (April 1, 2025) was looking for a “review” of the census in 2001 and the implementation of the NRC before designing in the state.
The party’s legislators organized a meeting to discuss the Supreme Court’s order to the center to carry out the exercise in the state within three months.
Demand for the 2001 Census Review came after 13 other parties called on the center to postpone the definition of exercise in the state until they were “mistakes” of the number of employees on the fee this year.
“In connection with the definition, we want what people want. First, the 2001 census needs to be checked,” said Senior BJP MLA Conthoujam Govindas to reporters.
Asked by Mr. Govindas, who is a former minister, he said that the National Citizens’ Register (NRC) is also the main problem of defining.
Cocomi, an umbrella body of several organizations of the Civil Society of Meitei in Manipur, recently protested against the defined step before the NRC in aastral state and claim that without the removal of illegal immigrants any process for indigenous people would be harmful.
The definition is scheduled for the whole country in 2026.
Asked about BJP’s proposals in connection with the definition, the other side of the MLA Yunmam Khemchand said, “The proposal is being prepared.”
The Supreme Court on March 17th granted the center for three months to define exercises in ARUNACHAL PRADESH, NAGAland, Manipur and Assam.

At the beginning of March 25, at least 13 political parties also convened a meeting about the definition. At this meeting, it was solved that no definition should be made until they were corrected in the 2001 census “mistakes”, said NPP Y State President Y. Joykumar to reporters after the meeting.
BJP and Congress followed from the meeting attended by representatives of JD (U), CPI (M), RPI (Athawale), Manipur Peoples’ Party, CPI, TMC, AAP, NCP (SCP), SHIV hay, BSP, Forward Bloc and RSP.
