The post came at a time when BJP criticized Congress and former Prime Minister Indire Gandhi tirelessly for storing an emergency in 1975.
The emergency situation, which was declared on June 25, 1975, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi lasted until 21 March 1977. He was marked by extensive press censorship, arrest without court and repression of disagreement in the Academy, Politics and Civil Society.
The Central Government led by BJP watched on June 25 as “Samvidhaan Hytya Diwas” to commemorate the “massive contributions” of those who tolerated “inhuman pain” during the period.
