The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Jana Sena Party (JSP) are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the victory of their candidates in the battle for Tirupati Municipal Corporation (TMC) in the upcoming civic elections.

Of the 66 corporators belonging to the ruling alliance — TDP, BJP, JSP — for 66 divisions, the Jana Sena has fielded 22 candidates and the BJP five.

Most of the JSP candidates are fresh faces or political newcomers. While their lack of popularity is a hindrance, the party relies on the absence of negative results among its candidates.

Similarly, the BJP candidates are its district president Samanchi Srinivas (21st division), TD Varaprasad (26th), M. Karunakar (44th), G. Prudhvi Reddy (52nd) and B. Parthasarathy (62nd).

Both sides promise security, stability and continuity. “We will strive to make every possible plan announced by the Union government within the reach of the citizens of Tirupati,” said BJP district president Samanchi Srinivas.

While the Jana Sena faces the problems of rebels, the party hopes to overcome the problem. “We are adopting the sugar and whip policy to control the rebel candidates. We hope to resolve the situation easily,” said Constituency Chief K. Kiran Rayal.

Meanwhile, Jana Sena MLA Arani Srinivasulu is touring as many divisions as possible in the temple town along with councilor candidates seeking votes.
