
The meeting of the parliamentary committee suddenly ended 1 July, when deputies Bharatiya Janata (BJP) protested against the panel’s decision to hear Medhu Patkar activist and acting activist Prakash Raj.
The Permanent Committee for the Development of the Rural and Panchayati Raj, headed by the Saptagiri Sankar Ulala Congress, called Patkar and Raj to hear her views on the implementation and efficiency of the land acquisition Act, which was in power in 2013.

Patkar led protests against increasing the height of the Sardar Sarovar dam in Gujarat and the ruling party is accused of working against the development of the country in the name of public and environmental causes.

Former Minister of the Union and BJP MP Parshottam Rupala joined other legislators on their part when they came out of the meeting, some of which dubbed Patkar as “anti-national”. BJP MEP wondered if Pakistan’s leaders could also be invited to such a meeting, PTTI press agency said,
However, Ulala, chairman of the panel, prevented this decision and stated that it is a standard practice for the Parliamentary Committee to hear members of civil society and other stakeholders on various issues.
“We wanted to hear their views on the Land Law. We wanted an opinion from everyone, but they (BJP) did not allow it,” he told PTI.
Of the 29 members of the committee, 14 members were present, including the chairman, and most of them came from BJP and its allies.

The agenda of the meeting was heard from various stakeholders on the implementation and effectiveness of the right to fair compensation and transparency in the acquisition, rehabilitation and relocation of the Act on Rehabilitation and Discussion of 2013, the UPA era.
Representatives of the Ministry of Land (Ministry of Rural Development), Ministry of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC), Ministries for Tribal Affairs, NGOs (NGOs), experts and other stakeholders were to speak before the panel.
Among those who were invited before the panel, the environmental officials and the Ministry of Forest and activists, including Patkar and Prakasha Raj, were also an actor who often criticized the BJP policy.
According to PTI, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda took part in the meeting.
BJP MEP said that it was not said that the decision to ask Patkar to share his views with the committee. Sources generally stated that it is the privilege of the chairman to select names, although members can submit proposals.
A member of the BJP said that their primary objection was to call Patkar, who was the face of the “Narmad Bachao Andolan” against the decisive pressure of the Gujarate government, then, headed by Narendra Modim as the main minister, to increase the height of the Sardar Sarovar dam.
Finally, the opinions of the state government prevailed, and Modi, which in 2014 took over as Prime Minister, often spoke about the effort to stop the project since its foundation at the age of 60.
When the BJP MPs went out, Ulaka said he decided to end the meeting because of the lack of quorum.

“According to the rule, 10 members are required. When BJP MPs went out, it was not kicked up and the meeting ended,” he said.

BJP deputies protested to appear in front of the panel and call it “anti-national” according to the sources quoted by the PTI press agency. MEP MIFFED also wondered whether the Prime Minister of Pakistan could be asked to question the panel, the press agency reported.
When the meeting began, the opposition MPs were of the opinion that he was to be heard by the heel that BJP deputies disagreed.
Asked about the incident, Papkar said she was invited to appear in front of the panel, and while she and others were waiting, they saw some deputies to leave.

She added that they were later informed that the meeting was over. Patkar said she also appeared before parliamentary committees before.
“I have never experienced anything like that. It is important to talk about the land acquisition law,” she said.
