BJP demands an impartial probe into the recent Hyderabad temple attacks

January 17, 2026

The BJP has asked the Congress government to crack down on those involved in temple vandalism and conduct an impartial inquiry into the recent attacks.

BJP president N. Ramchander Rao claimed that after the Congress came to power, the number of attacks on temples increased. He said miscreants desecrated the Puranapulu temple just three days after the attack on the Katta Maisamma temple at Safilguda in Malkajgiri – a development he described as “highly condemnable”.

Mr Rao said the incidents were part of a “disturbing and recurring pattern” of desecration of temples in Telangana and claimed that the majority community felt insecure after the repeated attacks. He held Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy “personally responsible” and accused him of indulging in vote bank politics and appeasement, which he said was evident during the Jubilee Hills poll.

Later, Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Aravind reiterated the same concerns in a press conference, alleging a conspiracy to force the majority community to move out of the Old City. The MP also reiterated his demand to rename the Nizamabad district as ‘Indur’, claiming that the original name was changed during the British rule at the behest of the then Nizam of Hyderabad. He further said that the BJP is ready to give tickets to minority candidates in the upcoming local elections if they decide to support the party. The Modi government, he added, does not discriminate in social and development schemes on the basis of caste, creed or religion.

The party president along with the MP and other leaders including general secretary N. Gautam Rao celebrated the BJP’s victory in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls by bursting crackers and distributing sweets at the state office. Mr. Rao felt that the decisive victory bodes well for the party’s performance in the upcoming GHMC polls.
