Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday (May 3, 2026) slammed the Omar Abdullah government for being a “dumb spectator” as a seminary and schools were closed and Urdu was de-qualified for a job in the revenue department. The actions were “a design to attack the identity and culture of the region”, she said.
“Recently, we witnessed the closure of Siraj-ul-Uloom Educational Institute (in south Kashmir’s Shopian) which provided top quality education to poor children and helped local people to become doctors and engineers. But the J&K government was silent on this,” said Ms. Mufti, who was addressing a rally in Ganderbal district.
