Bizarre: Sai Sudharsan throws the bat into the wicket, gets a wicket in Qualifier 1

Gujarat Titans were rattled by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League 2026 on Tuesday and luck certainly did not favor the Shubman Gill-led team at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

GT opener Sai Sudharsan’s dismissal perhaps best summed up the team’s night after the batsman ended up throwing the bat onto his own stumps in one of the most bizarre dismissals in IPL history. The incident was so unusual that many fans struggled to understand what happened when they first watched it.

Sudharsan’s wicket fell in the third over of the innings when he faced RCB seamer Jacob Duffy. Sudharsan was trying to cut the delivery towards the off side and immediately ran after making contact with the ball. However, the force of the shot caused the bat to slip from his hands.

As Sudharsan sprinted towards the non-striker’s end, the bat flew backwards and hit the stumps, clearing the bails. The batter was subsequently controlled by the hit wicket in maddening fashion.

The dismissal stunned players and fans alike, contributing to GT’s poor showing in the high-pressure playoff clash.

Here’s how this bizarre incident unfolded:

1. Sudharsan attempted a cut off Jacob Duffy and immediately went for a run.

2. The bat slipped from his hands while reaching and rolled back onto the stumps behind him.

Since the release of Sudharsan, Gujarat has lost the plot. They lost 5 wickets in the powerplay which marked a new low for the franchise in the IPL playoffs.

IPL 2026: RCB RACES TO 254 IN QUALIFIER 1

Gujarat Titans were bowled out by Rajat Patidar’s unbeaten 93 in the first innings of the Qualifier 1 encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. GT were made to rue a costly drop of catch as Patidar hit 20 off 17 balls and the RCB skipper made Gujarat pay dearly for the mistake.

Patidar, who recently returned from injury, looked ominous as he tore apart the GT bowling attack to power RCB to a mammoth total of 254/5. Once granted a reprieve, the batter mercilessly shifted gears and never allowed Gujarat a way back into the contest.

GT couldn’t recover from the onslaught in the second innings and gradually lost control of the game as the massive target proved too much to handle.
