BIS raids two units, seizes 10,000 pressure cookers with fake ISI marks

Officials of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Vijayawada branch, raided two units allegedly manufacturing ISI-branded pressure cookers without obtaining a BIS license.

The teams led by Deputy Director and Scientist-C D Vivek Vardhan Reddy raided Ghanshyam Aluminum at Surampalli village in Krishna district and seized about 9,000 pressure cookers bearing ISI mark which were not authorized by BIS.

Under the supervision of BIS director and Vijayawada branch manager Prem Sajani Patnal, the teams also inspected Ramdev Industries at Kabela in Vijayawada. Vivek Vardhan Reddy said around 1,000 pressure cookers and components used to make the cookers with forged ISI mark were seized.

According to the Deputy Director’s statement on Friday, cases have been registered against the management of the two units under Section 17 and Section 29(3) of the BIS Act, 2016.
