The birth anniversary of Kittur Rani Channamma was celebrated with enthusiasm in Raichur and Yadgir districts on Thursday.
Minor Irrigation Minister NS Boseraju started the celebrations by paying floral tributes to the great freedom fighter and also decorating the Basaveshwar statue at Basaveshwar circle in Raichur.
Rani Channamma’s portrait was brought to Siddarama Rangamandir in a grand procession.
Additional Superintendent of Police Kumarswamy said Rani Channamma fought bravely against the British and her patriotism inspired many freedom fighters.
A similar celebration of the brave Indian freedom fighter was organized in Yadgir.
Deputy Commissioner Sridhar Goturi, who launched the program in Yadgir, said that Rani Channamma waged a guerilla model war against the British with the support of loyalist Sangolli Rayanna.
