
The Minister of Higher Education said R. Bindu that the decision of the High Court in Kerala would cancel the appointment of the temporary vice -chairman of the Digital University of Keral and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University confirmed the status of the state government.
“For some time, the government’s attitude has been proven as a correct court.
She added that universities in state capacity under the laws adopted by legislative assembly, while overall supervision lies on the state government. “The court decision has shown that the unilateral appointment of the vice -chairman, both the previous governor and the current, are unconstitutional,” she said.
On the focus of V-CS
Dr. Bindu also said that vice -chairmen must focus on providing an environment that contributes to learning than to involve political movements. Responsibility for adherence to academic interests must be in the first place. “It is essential that we follow the established procedures and any deviation from this leads to legal intervention, as the courts have shown,” she said.
General Minister of Education V. Sivankutty also described the Supreme Court’s decision as a victory for the government’s obligation to ensure transparency in the education sector. The judgment is a decisive step in the government’s efforts to achieve perfection in the Higher Education Sector, he said.
Trade union reaction
The confederation of the university employees, Kerala, said that the decision was a strong poke of illegal events of the governor. The organization added that the Governor’s decision to suppress the state panel of candidates was a direct attack on academic autonomy and the rights of the academic community.
The Federation of University Teachers Associations also welcomed the decision and stated that it emphasizes the importance of monitoring the legal framework and respecting democratic processes in the university administration. They strongly defended the resignation of temporary vice -chairmen who were appointed “unlawfully”.
