
At least five people, including the Indian national, were reportedly killed and dozens of others were injured when a tourist bus returning to New York from a trip to Niagara waterfalls crashed on the highway in front of Buffalo.
The bus traveled back to New York after visiting Niagara Falls, with 54 people on board, including two bus company employees, the police said.
Most passengers were Indian, Chinese or Philippine, state police soldier New York James O’Callaghan during the press briefing.
The deceased were identified as Shankar Kumar Jha, 65, from Bihar; Pinki Changrani, 60, from East Brunswick, New Jersey; Xie Hongzhuo, 22, from Beijing, China; Zhang Xiaolan, 55, from Jersey City, New Jersey; And Jian Mingli, 56, from Jersey City, New Jersey, ABC News reported.
The deadly accident occurred on Interstate 90 in Pembroke, near Buffalo, at 12:22 (local time) on Friday, according to New York State Police.
The New York State Police Trooper James O’Callaghan was quoted by ABC News when he said during the press briefing that the bus was traveling east when “the vehicle lost control, went to the median, exaggerated and ended up in a ditch”.
The state police said on Saturday the bus rolled over and rolled up the I-90 on the southern embankment.
The accident forced closure through via both directions.
The eastern lanes, which remained closed until the evening, were reopened around 8:30 pm, about eight hours after the crash, and west reopened just after 17:00, Buffalo News reported.
According to the New York State Police Unit T. Andre Ray, it was released or thrown around the bus when overturned, according to overturning.

He said the bus was “extremely damaged” and that many passengers were released from the vehicle when crashing. The driver was “alive and well,” he added.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement published on X that she was “informed about the accident tragic buses” and that her office “closely coordinates” with the state police and other agencies responding to the accident.
