Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi was on Tuesday (November 25, 2025) served with a notice to vacate her official residence at 10, Circular Road, where she has been living with her husband and RJD chief Lalu Prasad and other family members for nearly two decades. The Building Construction Department (BCD) has allotted Ms Devi a new official bungalow — 39, Harding Road.
Ms. Devi was the Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Council for a long time.
10 Circular road in Patna has been a venue for party meetings and discussions for a long time. It was allotted to Ms. Devi in her capacity as former Chief Minister.
BCD Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary confirmed the new allotment for Ms. Devi, saying, “It has enough space and is meant for senior officials.”
Government sources told The Hindu that the new allotment was in line with the Patna High Court’s 2019 judgment which struck down “lifetime allotment of bungalows to former chief ministers as misuse of public funds”.
Ms Devi’s daughter Rohini Acharya, who is now in Singapore, in a social media post accused the Nitish Kumar government of “targeting her family to insult Lalu Prasad, the messiah of millions”.
“The party (NDA) can throw him out of the house, but how do you throw him out of the hearts of the people of Bihar,” asked Ms. Acharya, who recently quit the RJD after being defamed in the Assembly elections. She urged the government to “respect the political status and health of Lalu Prasad”.
