Ruling Bhartiya Janata Party National President Nitin Nabin on Friday (September 18, 2026) donated three months of his salary as a Rajya Sabha MP to the Bihar Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the victims of the recent floods in the state.

About 50 million people have been affected by floods in 15 districts of Bihar this year due to “heavy rain and flash floods in rivers originating from the neighboring country of Nepal”.

Mr Nabin, who was a five-time BJP MLA from Bankipur constituency in Patna district, expressed deep concern over the dire flood situation and donated his three-month salary of ₹6.35 lakh in his capacity as a member of the Rajya Sabha, even as “all possible assistance is being provided to the affected families through financial assistance, relief camps and crop damage assessment”.

“The entire government stands firmly with the people during this crisis,” he said. Mr Nabin also said that he “is fully committed to all the families in Bihar affected by the floods”.

The state government has already distributed direct financial assistance of ₹550 crore by transferring ₹7,000 to each flood-affected family, Mr. Nabin said, adding that the process of assessing crop damage and providing necessary assistance to farmers was underway.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan along with Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary and other top state officials visited the flood affected areas of the state recently. “The floods in Bihar this time have caused extensive damage to lives, property, crop production and even cattle and their livestock and I would speak to the central government to provide adequate relief to the affected population,” Mr Chouhan told reporters while assessing the flood damage.

The state government has set up more than 1,000 community kitchens, several relief camps and several teams of national and state disaster response forces for relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas. Now, much to the relief of the affected people, flood water in major rivers like Ganga, Gandak and Kosi is receding at several places including Patna district.

Earlier, Bihar CM Choudhary conducted several aerial surveys of the flood-hit areas to monitor the rapid relief and rescue operations.
