Three FIRs have been registered against JD(U) MLA Anant Singh and Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh for allegedly violating the election code and law and order norms during the campaign for the eight-seat Bihar Legislative Council elections to be held on October 23, police said on Monday (Oct 19, 2026).
The cases relate to a roadshow held in the Mokama Assembly constituency, represented by don-turned-politician Anant Singh, in Patna district on October 18, during which more vehicles than permitted were allegedly used and several vehicles had sirens blaring, officials said.
“JCB machines were also deployed at several places in Barh town to shower flower petals, which adversely affected normal law and order. It was a clear violation of the Election Model Code of Conduct (MCC). A total of three FIRs were registered against the MLA, Anuj Singh and others in this regard,” said Barh Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO-I) Ram Krishna.
Voting will be held on October 23 from 8 am to 4 pm, counting is scheduled for October 27.
The eight board polls are for Patna Graduates, Darbhanga Graduates, Tirhut Graduates, Kosi Graduates, Patna Teachers, Darbhanga Teachers, Tirhut Teachers and Saran Teachers constituencies.
Anant Singh has openly defied his party JD(U) by campaigning for Jana Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh in Patna Graduates constituency.
The JD(U) MLA has vowed to ensure the defeat of party MLC Neeraj Kumar, who is seeking re-election from the constituency.
Anant Singh had earlier taken out a rally in support of candidate Jan Suraaj in the area.
“I don’t know what the party line is on this matter. The fact remains that he (Neeraj) has opposed me on so many occasions. I have to pay him back in the same coin,” Anant Singh said recently.
