Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) Chairman PM Narendra Swamy on Sunday said that Vels Studio and Entertainment Ltd., the theme park where the current edition of reality show Big Boss is being shot, has written to the board that it will comply with environmental norms and pay Environmental Compensation (EC).
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, KSPCB Chairman said that Vels Studio and Entertainment Ltd. (Jolly Wood Studios and Adventures) wrote to the board last week that it will abide by all rules and also pay any fine for violating environmental norms.
In October, the KSPCB ordered the closure of a studio in Bidadi Industrial Area in Bengaluru South district for non-compliance with environmental norms.
The KSPCB issued an order on October 6 that Vels Studio and Entertainment Ltd. is an amusement park established and operated without obtaining valid approval from the Board of Directors, which falls under the green category.
The reality show Big Boss was stopped just 10 days after it started as the studio was sealed after violating environmental rules.
However, Bengaluru South district authorities removed the seal from the studio on October 9 following the intervention of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
Mr. Shivakumar said that the makers of Bigg Boss Kannada must be given a chance to correct their mistakes and get the show reopened.
“First of all, they did not have the approval of the board. Even today, our closure order is in force. But the decision rests with the local administration. Since the studio has written to us that it will correct its mistakes and pay the EC, we will discuss and consider the request,” said the KSPCB chairman.
He added that the fine that the studio will have to pay will be several crores of rupees.
