Mysuru city police seized a large consignment of ganja weighing about 280 kg, estimated to be worth around ₹ 1.40 crore, in the early hours of Monday.

Disclosing this information to reporters, Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar said a team of the City Crime Branch (CCB) police intercepted a truck on the Mysuru-Malavalli highway and seized the contraband, which was believed to be on its way to Kerala and other districts of Karnataka.

A total of four people were arrested in the case. They were identified as Mohammed Zubair, Mudasir Ahmed, Abubakar Siddiq and Syed Mazhar, police said.

The seizure came after about a week of intelligence monitoring, Ms. Latkar said.

During the intervention, the car accompanying the truck was also seized, the police said.

Drug menace

Ms Latkar said the city police was taking action against the drug menace in the city, targeting both dealers and users of substances like ganja and other synthetic drugs by filing cases.
