But then again, that’s something you can’t control: the pitch. I think there’s always that extra bit of bounce at the Wankhede. Guys can trust the bounce and lead across the line, which as a bowler can also bring you into the game. I just felt or feel the margins are a lot smaller here. Morkel called it quite a small ball;

He added that bowlers must remain brave despite the risks. “So you have to really fight for that, stay in the moment and compete for every ball. Because, like I said, a batsman’s strength can also be his weakness on the surface. So sometimes it’s not to go too defensive and keep attacking because opportunities can come,” he added.Head coach Gautam Gambhir also spoke about how the lack of dew during this tournament affected India’s batting compared to earlier bilateral series. “During the bilateral series there was also a lot of dew in the second innings, but we haven’t seen much dew during this World Cup campaign. So I felt it wasn’t just about the strike rate, it was about reading the game correctly and of course reading the situation. And that’s something that will be important and the boys have done that really well,” Gambhir said.“Even today you could see they were chasing 195. We never felt like we were out of the game. We never felt in 20 overs that the chase was gone. So the guys were in control. Yes, there were times in bilateral matches where we could have chased down the target in 16 or 17 overs, but this is the World Cup. And the pressure is different.”India reached the semi-finals after wins over Zimbabwe and the West Indies, despite falling short against South Africa in the Super Eights.
