Big blow for RR as injured Riyan Parag misses LSG clash, Jadeja still recovering
Rajasthan Royals suffered a major setback ahead of their crucial IPL 2026 clash against Lucknow Super Giants after skipper Riyan Parag was ruled out with a hamstring injury. With the play-off game entering its crucial phase, concerns have now grown whether RR’s regular skipper will recover in time for the rest of the league phase.
In Parag’s absence, Yashasvi Jaiswal stepped in as stand-in captain and led the side at the toss after winning and electing to field first. Jaiswal confirmed that the RR skipper was unavailable due to a hamstring problem, but was still hopeful that Parag could return for the next match against Punjab Kings on May 24.
RR vs LSG, IPL 2026: UPDATES
“(Na Riyan Parag) He had some hamstring injury and he will be fine soon, I hope so. So he is not playing this game,” Jaiswal said at the toss.
Meanwhile, RR also continue to monitor the fitness of Ravindra Jadeja, who has missed the next match as he recovers from a slight knee and elbow problem. Rajasthan Royals initially termed his absence as workload management before the coaching staff later confirmed the injury concerns.
Jadeja already missed RR’s previous clash against Delhi Capitals and his recovery continues to be assessed day by day.
“(On Jadeja) Not much at the moment. Jaddu bhai is recovering. He has some ailments but he will be fine soon,” added Jaiswal.
WHY IS PARAG’S ABSENCE A PLAYOFF CONCERN?
The timing of Riyan Parag’s injury could not have been worse for Rajasthan Royals.
RR are currently fifth in the IPL 2026 points table with 12 points and remain one of the strongest contenders for the final available playoff spot. However, they still need results to go their way.
If Rajasthan Royals win both their remaining league matches, qualification will be assured without depending on any other side. But even one defeat could leave them vulnerable in a packed playoff race involving Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings.
Parag had a moderate season with the bat in IPL 2026, scoring 258 runs in 11 matches at an average of 25.80 and a strike rate of 151.76. But numbers aside, RR will miss his presence as captain and his ability to command the middle overs under pressure.
Losing the captain and one of the key middle-order batsmen at such a crucial stage could seriously upset the balance of Rajasthan Royals heading into the business end of the tournament.
