US President Donald Trump claimed on Monday (US time) that tariffs in India for buying Russian oil brought the Moscow economy “big blow”. In his last remarks before his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, President Trump called the new Dilli one of the “largest or the second largest oil buyers” at Alaska next week.
“It does not help if the President of the United States tells his largest or the second largest oil buyer, that we give you a 50 % tariff if you buy oil from Russia. That was a big blow,” Trump said what seemed to be a reference to India.
Doubled the Indian tariffs
Last week, President Trump doubled the Indian tariffs to 50 percent and quoted Russian oil purchases. Trump imposed 50 % tariff in India in two phases: for the first time 25 % of fees for 30 July and another 25 percent were announced on Wednesday 7 August.
President Trump confirmed that he would meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday. “I thought it was very respectful that Russia’s president was coming to our country, unlike us who we go to our country or even a third party. But I think we will have constructive conversations,” he said.
Russian economy
Trump also suggested that the Russian economy was not going well, because the tariffs were “very well disturbed”.
It does not help if the President of the United States tells his largest or the second largest oil buyer that we give you a 50% tariff if you buy oil from Russia. That was a big blow.
“It is a massive country … I think they have 11 time belts, you can believe it … From the land perspective, they are by far the largest … They have tremendous potential in Russia to do well. They do not divide well.
