US President Donald Trump announced the construction of a new dance hall of $ 200 million, which the White House described as “so much needed and excellent addition”, and the work began in September. Ballroom with an area of 90 000 square stop-SEPAGE ASSIGNMENTS APPLY TO 650 PEOPLE-will be the latest change introduced to the so-called “People’s House” since the Republican President returned to office in January
The White House did not specify how much Trump or “other patriotic donors” would contribute to the “financing” of what was called a “big old project”, informed the Financial Times.
For several months, Trump offered plans to build a dance hall in the White House and claimed that the current residence was lacking a large space to host significant events. He mocked the use of outdoor tents – the solution of past administrations used for state dinners with hundreds of guests – called it inappropriate for receiving the heads of states and other dignitaries.
Currently, the largest inner place in the White House, East Room, can accommodate about 200 people.
Trump said the dance hall had been in work for some time.
A great older project
“They wanted a dance hall in the White House for more than 150 years, but there was never a president who was good in the dance halls,” Trump told reporters on Thursday. “I am good in building things and we will build quickly and in time. It will be beautiful – top, top of the line.”
He stressed that the new dance hall would not interfere with the existing mansion.
“It will be close, but it does not touch it and puts a complete respect for the existing building, which I am the biggest fan,” he said. “It’s my favorite. It’s my favorite place. I love it.”
Trump added that the dance hall will also serve future administrations.
“It will be a great older project,” he said. “I think it will be really beautiful.”
According to the print secretary of the White House Karoline Leavitt, a dance hall will be built, where the eastern wing is currently sitting. With a sitting capacity of 650 people, several offices will temporarily relocate – including the first lady’s offices – to be relocated during construction. The eastern wing will also undergo modernization and renovation.
“Nothing will be destroyed,” Leavitt said.
