Minister for Forests, Environment and Bidar District in-charge Eshwar B. Khandre on Saturday said that energy infrastructure projects worth around ₹ 1,100 crore are being implemented in the district to boost electricity supply and promote comprehensive development and energy self-sufficiency.

He was speaking after laying foundation stone for 110/11 kV substation at Goranalli-B (Chitta) village in Bidar taluk.

The program was organized by Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL).

Mr. Khandre said the extensive power corridor project includes setting up a 440 kV station at a cost of ₹700 million, a 220 kV station at a cost of ₹150 million and 16 new power substations at an estimated cost of ₹22 million.

He said that all these projects should be completed within one year. It will significantly reduce the problems of cargo dumping and burying in the district.

The minister said the projects will provide a permanent solution to frequent power outages and transformer burnouts faced by farmers in the predominantly agricultural area.

The improved power quality will ensure uninterrupted electricity for agriculture and industries, he added.

Mr. Khandre expressed confidence that the proposed corridor will also facilitate the supply of surplus power produced in the region to neighboring areas, including Kalaburagi, Hyderabad and Goa.

He emphasized the importance of energy self-sufficiency and called on farmers to start producing energy from renewable sources to reduce dependence on imported fuel.

Farmers can generate nearly one megawatt of solar or wind power on three or four acres of land, use the free electricity for pumping sets and sell the excess power to the government to improve their economic situation, he said.

Bidar South MLA Shailendra Beldale said the new electricity substation at Goranalli village will help resolve long-standing technical problems and voltage fluctuations in the district.

He said the substation would cater to the growing demand for electricity in fast-growing localities and nearby villages, including Shahapur, Malakapur and Sultanpur.

Mr Beldale said the project was launched after overcoming legal hurdles related to the acquisition of 34 acres of land and called on contractors and engineers to complete the work within the stipulated time frame while maintaining quality standards.

KPTCL Chief Engineer (Transmission Zone, Kalaburagi) Ramaswamy ML, Chief Engineer Ramachandra SG, GESCOM Chief Engineer Venkatesh Halavi, Executive Engineer Shashirekha Patil, Executive Engineer Ramesh Patil, Chief Engineer Renuka TJ, Assistant Executive Engineer Prabhu Super Reddy and Assistant Executive Engineer DayanandinCOM Veerabhadrappa Salimani, officials, employees and villagers were present.
