Bidadi police register protesters for unauthorized demonstration in Byramangala

The Bidadi police have registered an FIR against a group of protesters for allegedly staging an unauthorized demonstration in Byramangala against the Bidadi Township project and disrupting traffic and normal public life.

Based on a complaint lodged by Devaraj, PSI, the police detained the protesters under Sections 126(2), (wrongful restraint.) 54 (incitement) and 190 (unlawful assembly) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

According to the complaint, the accused, including Girish, Chetan, Chandrashekar, Shivrudrappa, Veeresh, Puttaswamy, Bhairappa, Krishnappa, Nagaraju, Jayamma, Jayalakshmi, Shwetha, Bhagya and Netha, along with others, allegedly staged an unauthorized protest at Bairamangal Circle.

Protesters reportedly placed chairs on the road, sat and lay down on the road, and parked tractors and wagons across the road. They also allegedly tied cattle on the road, which obstructed the movement of vehicles.

The protest is said to have started around 10 am on September 21 and continued on September 22, 23, 24 and 25.

The Bidadi-Harohalli road is part of National Highway 265 and passes through an industrial area. Police said the road blockade caused inconvenience to the public, school children, employees and lorry vehicles.

The protesters also reportedly called on other women and members of the public to join the agitation

The protest began around 10:00 a.m. on September 21 without obtaining the required permit. The demonstration reportedly continued for five consecutive days, from September 21 to 25, with large numbers of people participating.

The protesters reportedly gathered along the road leading towards Bairamangale and raised various demands regarding the Bidadi Township project. Police said the demonstration affected vehicular movement and caused inconvenience to the public and disrupted normal day-to-day activities in the area.

The police report names several people in connection with the alleged unauthorized protest and related activities. Police said further investigations are underway to determine the role of those named in the complaint and determine the circumstances of the alleged breach.

The police said that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the results of the investigation.

DKS reacts

Reacting to the road blocking incident, Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said, “Road blocking is causing public inconvenience. We are not pressurizing anyone to donate their land. Those who need money to build their lives will give their land, while those who don’t want to give don’t have to.”

On the other hand, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy questioned why the police had intervened after five days of protests. “The farmers went on hunger strike at the same place for five days and no action was taken. Why did they strike on the fifth day,” he asked.
