The main minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on Monday (October 13, 2025) claimed that the water running from neighboring Bhutan caused floods in northern Bengal and was looking for compensation from the neighboring country.
“We faced losses because of the water descending from Bhutan … We want them to give us compensation,” said Mrs. Banerjee. Over the past few days, Mrs Baerjee has held water from the Bhutan River responsible for floods in North Bengal, but that was the first time she searched for compensation from the ground.
The main minister, who visited Nagracata affected floods in Jalpaiguri, repeated the requirement to establish an Indo-Bhutan Common Commission for the Common River.
“I insisted on setting up an Indo-Bhutan Common Commission for a common river for some time and I demand that his West Bengal become part of it. Under our pressure, meeting 16 is planned.

While another of the relatives of the deceased received 5 Lakh’s replacement together with the work as a guardian, the main minister said the houses would be built according to Banglar Baari’s scheme.
She expressed her displeasure with the central government and said that the state is not allocated any funds to solve natural disasters. “We have to do everything. Delhi doesn’t even pay a penny,” she said.
This is the second way of the main minister to North Bengal to supervise the flood relief.
