Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao found empty liquor bottles lying on the premises of Madhurawada Primary Health Center during a surprise inspection here recently. The visit was made under the Swachh Andhra-Swarnandhra programme.
During the inspection, the lawmaker singled out hospital staff and questioned how patients can maintain trust in the medical facility under such conditions.
Local residents informed the MLA that cattle regularly stray into the hospital premises and anti-social elements use the premises to consume alcohol at night.
Residents also complained about the stench caused by garbage dumped right in front of the hospital.
The MLA inspected the ward and spoke to patients to assess the medical services provided.
Mr Srinivasa is said to have subsequently spoken to medical staff and expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of cleanliness and the level of service for patients.
From the hospital itself, the legislator turned to the district health officer and ordered the official to immediately remove the deficiencies and improve the overall medical facility.
He also called on the police to actively monitor the premises of the polyclinic during night trips and thus prevent further violations of social services.
