Bheeman Falls is located in dense forests on the hills in Jamunamarathur, a tribal village of 45 km from the plain.
The forest department has begun to visit tourists in Jalagamparai and Bheeman Falls in Jawadh Hills of Tirupattur and Tiruvannamalai after heavy rains in the hills that restored the flow of water in the waterfalls.
Bheeman Falls, located in the dense forests on top of the hills in Jamunamarathur, the tribal village of 45 km from the plain, is powered by water from the basin, such as the Thenpennai River and its tributaries. “As the water flow continues in the waterfalls, tourists can visit the area with restrictions because they cannot embark on RFS. It was placed adequate forest staff to ensure the safety of tourists, especially women and children,” said N. PraBu, forest officer, Jamunamarathor.
Forest officials said that, unlike Bheeman Falls, Jalagamparai Falls is much closer to the plain, because it is about 4 km from Jolarpet. The falls are surrounded by a green cover in the Yelagiri hills. “The falls remain ideal for a day trip. Basic equipment such as stalls with grocery, dressing room and parking space should be available to attract more tracks,” said V. Suman, tourist.
Several temples, especially near Swamimalai, about 4 km from Jalagamparai Falls, help attract more tourists. Visitors are led by forest officials to these temples to ensure their safety.
Forest officials said that there are commonly seen deer, sloth and peacocks around these waterfalls. Every waterfall, on average, gains around 300-500 visitors every day. It will double during weekends and holidays.
The district administration was organized by special buses to reach falls and other tourist sites, such as the Sathanur dam, which receives excess rainwater from upstream, forest officials said.
The key cities in Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai and Tirupattur were witnessed by continuous rain on Sunday. Among them, Tiruvannamalai recorded the highest precipitation of 234.6 mm on Sunday.
Several streets in key cities such as Ambur, Vaniyambadi and Jolarpet in Tirupattura were flooded. The flashing flood was the Naganathi River, the tributary of the Pennai River, covering Kalasapakkam, Polur and Arani in Tiruvannamei. Crops in Cheyyar, Vandavas and Chengam were also flooded, officials.
