Bhatti encourages young filmmakers to focus on climate change, water scarcity

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka at the Bathukamma Young Filmmaker Challenge Awards-2026 at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka urged young filmmakers to produce short films on climate change, water scarcity, energy conservation and other social issues to raise public awareness and inspire action.

Addressing the Bathukamma Young Filmmaker Challenge Awards – 2026 at Shilpakala Vedika here on Saturday, he said the state government is committed to nurture young film talent and position Hyderabad as a major destination for the Indian film industry.

Mr. Bhatti said that although the Telugu film industry is based in Hyderabad, talented people from Telangana have not always been given adequate opportunities in the past. Several directors, actors and producers from the state have now made a name for themselves in the industry, he said.

The government has been trying to attract leading film personalities from across the country and provide the infrastructure and enabling environment needed for the growth of the industry in Hyderabad. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and the state cabinet were seriously considering the goal of making the city a major hub for Indian cinema, he said.

Mr. Bhatti noted that conveying a story in a two- or three-minute short film that might otherwise require a three-hour feature film requires considerable creativity and storytelling skills. The government is ready to provide necessary support and encouragement to budding filmmakers, he added.

Expressing happiness at recognizing young talent through 29 awards across categories including short films, songs, folk songs, influencers and essays, Mr. Bhatti said he would monitor the films of the participants and explore ways to encourage budding filmmakers.
