The delay in appointing the new Vice -President for Bharathidasan University, one of the largest universities in the state in terms of its jurisdiction and the number of associated universities, caused concerns in academic circles.
M. Selvam, who has been vice president of the university for four years, which included one year of extension, demituated the office of February 5th. The three -member VC Convenor Committee was subsequently established to fulfill the duties of the Chancellor Bharathidasan University. The Committee is authorized to fulfill many of the vice -chairman’s duties until the appointment is observed.
Commissioner for Higher Education E. Sundaravalli is a committee of the committee. Members of the Syndicate of R. Sakthi Krishhnan and V. Rajesh Kannan are two more members. All important files related to the daily management of the university are listed. Mrs. Sundaravalli, who works from Chennai, must, besides her regular role as a collegial commissioner commissioner, to handle all university ensembles. In addition, the VC Convenor Committes of Madurai University is also a VC Convenor Committes of Madurai.
According to sources, even though Mrs. Sundravalli visits Tiruchi from time to time to supervise the university, officials must frequent visits to Chennai to clean up the files, because they also have to handle her regular works.
Jurisdiction of the University of Bharathidasan ranges from Tiruchi to Tiruvaruru and Nagapattinam. It has about 153 associated universities. In addition, 38 departments have to manage all academic and unfounded activities.
The role of the Vice -Chairman is important in the transfer of proposals to various agencies, including the University Grants Commission, the Ministry of Science and Technology, etc. Approval for the vice -chairman is necessary for the creation of committees to provide new associations for course, forming panels and examiners submitted by researchers and others. Academics and other participating parties of the university raise concerns that the university administration was seriously affected because of the unoccupied vice -chairman.
“Normally, the VC has to clean up at least 20 files a day. They must listen to teaching complaints and non -rendgrav there.
Another member of the faculty said that the VC search committee will usually be made up months before the end of the deputy chairman. However, even eight weeks after the dismantling of Mr. Selvam, the VC search committee has not yet been created. When there was a strong disagreement between the Governor of RN Ravi and the State Government to include a candidate UGC in search committees, it was found that it would take time for the VC search committee to adopt requests from aspiring candidates.
