Delhi: Gasoline pumps across national capital will no longer provide fuel for vehicles at the end of life (EOL) from tomorrow 1 July, according to the latest rules of the Air quality management Commission (CAQM).
Police staff in Delhi and transport department will be placed on fuel stations throughout Delhi to prevent the fuel of vehicles that exceeded their prescribed lifetime, ie vehicles at the end of their lives.
The prescribed lifetime for diesel vehicles is 10 years old, while gasoline vehicles are 15 years old.
The Commission for Instructions for Air Quality Management has come to reduce the vehicle pollution in Delhi.
As the checks will be carried out
In addition to the transport department and police staff in Delhi, there will also be coercive units from the municipal corporation, nor said.
Police staff in Delhi will be deployed at fuel stations numbered 1 to 100, while the traffic department mobilizes 59 exclusive teams across fuel stations with 101 to 159.
One police officer will be placed on each of the 350 gasoline pumps identified to monitor and prevent vehicle replenishment, while two other police staff will be responsible for maintaining the right and organizing during recovery.
How will vehicles be identified at the end of life?
Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) was assigned a responsibility for ensuring smooth operation of automated numeric plates (ANPR) at fuel stations.
The ANPR systems automatically capture and display the registration data of each vehicle entering the fuel station and identify vehicles at the end of their lives in real time, according to the SOP released previously by the Delhi government.
What happens to vehicles at the end of life?
During the inspections, if any of the gasoline pumps is found any EOL vehicle, then such vehicles will be confiscated, said police officer PTI.
“Our traffic staff will ensure that the vehicle is confiscated and the owner of ELV (vehicles at the end of life),” the policeman said.
What gasoline pumps must do
Previously issued SOPs also load that all gasoline pumps must maintain a protocol, whether manual or digital, from all fuel transactions involving vehicles at the end of life.
“Keep a protocol (manual or digital) transaction for rejection at the end of the vehicle’s life for a weekly report per week at the transport department in transport.delhi.gov.in,” SOP says.
Gasoline stations were also instructed to train their employees on CAQM regulations and correct procedures for rejecting fuel for EOL vehicles.
Failure to comply with fuel stations can attract fines according to Section 192 of the 1988 motor vehicles.
In 2018, the Supreme Court’s judgment banned diesel vehicles older than 10 years and gasoline vehicles over 15 years in Delhi. The 2014 National Court Order (NGT) also prohibits parking of vehicles aged over 15 years in public places.
