
New Delhi: Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman suggested on Monday that standard protocols for managing large public rallies are needed, after Karur Stampede in Tamil Nadu, which left more than 40 dead.
The Minister, who visited Karur on Monday, also asked the district administration to immediately share the details of the families of the victims with the central government to allow the payments of Gratia payments.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex Gratia on Sunday £2 Lakh from the National Fund for Help PM (PMNRF) to another relative of every deceased in The Stampede and £50,000 for the injured. He described the incident at the political assembly as “unfortunate”.

The Minister refused to comment on specific political questions and said, “I am here on a very well-defined mission-to worry about the prime minister and make sure I will meet at least a few families that have lost their loved ones and expensive, and those in the hospital.”
In a number of contributions on social media, Sitharaman said she had communicated with people and officials in Karur. The Minister also visited a government medical college in Karura to meet the injured and communicate with doctors about treatment provided to people. The Minister also offered its full support to the affected families.
