Bescom receives 6,500 applications for permanent electricity connection without OC

As the Energy Department opens a window for homeowners to get permanent electricity connection without applying for an occupancy certificate, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) received 6,500 applications from Tuesday, June 23 to Friday, June 26.
On Monday, June 22, the state government granted an exemption to homeowners to get permanent electricity connection without planning permission, provided the site construction was completed before May 31, 2026. This applies to buildings built on plots of 2,400 square feet with a basement and three storeys (G+3) or stilts with four storeys (S+4).
A senior official from Bescom said, “The 6,500 applications include those house owners who had pending applications for permanent electricity connection, house owners who did not apply but received temporary connection and those who have neither temporary nor permanent electricity connection.”
He added, “Whenever applications are received, section engineers from each sub-division will visit the site as it is limited to sites measuring 2400 sq ft with a tolerance of 20% which is up to 2888 sq ft. The 20% deviation is mainly attributed to the remote area. While the application deadline is July 6, 2026, reviews will continue for three to four months. “Sometimes the house owners would like to install a lift in the building. In such cases, the junior engineers will hand over the details along with photographs and measurements of the site to the senior engineers. It will be approved after thorough inspection,” he added.
Besides, as per the regulations, those applying for permanent connection have to install smart meters of 3 kW which costs ₹ 4,988. “Usually a 3kW smart meter is installed for houses with two to three bedrooms, hall and kitchen. Applicants have to install it and ₹820 is charged for installation and maintenance of these meters. Applicants have to pay ₹10,500 as line service charges and ₹13,500 as an average deposit for two months. This deposit is an average deposit of two months.”
