Bengaluru to get two tanks
In a bid to strengthen Bengaluru’s water supply infrastructure, the state cabinet on Thursday approved the construction of two water reservoirs at a combined cost of ₹61.50 crore.
The first tank of 50 million liters (50 ML) capacity will be constructed at Kaval Byrasandra at a cost of ₹ 22.50 crore. The project is expected to benefit around 72,000 people, Bengaluru City Development Minister Krishna Byregowda told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
A second tank with a capacity of 22 million liters (22 ML) will be constructed in the Banashankari area at a cost of ₹39 million. The additional storage capacity is expected to improve water distribution.
Master plan of the city
The Cabinet has decided to grant ₹16.60 crore for the preparation of a Geographical Information System (GIS)-based master plan for Bengaluru and surrounding urban areas, Mr. Gowda said. The initiative aims to promote scientific and integrated urban planning in response to rapid urban expansion, population growth and increasing pressure on infrastructure.
The project will include collection of geographical data, study of road connectivity, urban sprawl and land use and preparation of information needed for urban planning and infrastructure development, he said.
Waste water treatment plant
The cabinet also approved the construction of a 10 million liters per day (MLD) sewage treatment plant at Charakanahalli at a cost of ₹ 51.37 crore. The project aims to strengthen Bengaluru’s sewage management infrastructure and address the growing volume of sewage produced in the area, Mr. Gowda said. The existing system includes a 40 MLD treatment facility. The additional equipment is to increase the cleaning capacity.
