Soon, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) consumers will be able to easily transfer ownership of electricity meters to their names without much difficulty. Bescom in conjunction with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) integrates on its online portal “automatic name changes” that facilitates the transfer of real estate ID.
Lakhs of electricity consumers, namely those in the apartments, have long fought with the name of electricity meters from builders/landowners to the owners of individual housing units. Initially, when the apartments are built, electricity meters are provided under the name of builders or landowners. While for many years consumers did not know that they should eventually convert the meters into their name, the introduction of the scheme of Gruh Jyothi and now E-Khata BBMP has made them to this process.
“We receive many requirements; some breakdowns receive five applications daily for transmission of names after E-Khata was mandatory. Therefore, the CEO decided to set up a new system on our portal Web Self (WSS) (convert names in trouble-free way,” said Senior Bescom clerk.
They also stated that the mechanism would function in such a way that after entering the consumer’s property ID, the Bescom automatically converted the electricity meter into their name. “The system is in development and we are waiting for some BBMP communication. Once everything falls to the place, the trigger system will be functional,” the clerk said.
‘Unconscious’
For the time being, although there is still an online system for consumers who are to be used for name transmission, most of them either unaware of it or do not use it because it requires recording multiple documents. Many of them also pay bribes either to intermediaries/agents or even junior officials in the offices of sub -divisions to transfer the names.
“My electricity meter was under the name of the builder and I wanted to convert it into my name when I had my e-hooks made. I found it from the other inhabitants in my home complex that I go to Subdivize the office and changed my name I had many times. Yelahance.
Vikram Rai, secretary of the Bangalore (BAF) home federation, said in commentary on the lack of awareness of this process, she said: “Many do not know that the meter is not in their names.
He also said that resident social care association (RWA) often faces challenges and at the same time acquire the transmission of the name for the meters of the common area. “Even here they are not aware that they should change until they go to roof solar installations,” he said.
