The Jnanabharati police are looking for a charlatan and his associate for allegedly duping a city-based software engineer of ₹48 crore by promising him a cure for his sexual health problems and later threatening him when he refused to pay more.
According to the complaint, the victim, a resident of Bengaluru, said he developed sexual health problems after his marriage in 2023. He first consulted doctors at a multi-specialty hospital based in Kengeri, who conducted tests and prescribed medication.
However, on May 3, 2025, he noticed a roadside tent near KLE Law College advertising a “quick cure” for sexual problems. As he approached the tent, the man introduced him to one “Vijay Guruji” who allegedly provided a permanent cure with “rare Ayurvedic medicines”.
“Guruji” allegedly examined him in a tent and asked him to buy a so-called herbal product called “Devaraj Booti” from Vijayalakshmi Ayurvedic Store in Yeshwanthpur, claiming it was from Haridwar and cost ₹ 1.6 lakh per gram. The victim was instructed to pay in cash only and not to take anyone with them.
The victim believed the claims that she took cash from home and bought the medicine. “Guruji” later prescribed another product, “Bhavana Booti Taila”, priced at ₹76,000 per gram, of which he bought 15 grams for ₹17 lakh with the help of his wife and parents.
The quack also allegedly pressured him to buy another Devaraj Booti, warning that otherwise the treatment would “fail”. The complainant said he used a bank loan of ₹20,000 to buy another 18 grams.
He further stated that he had borrowed money from a friend to buy 4 grams of “Devaraj Rasabooti”, at a cost of ₹ 2.6 lakh per gram, paying an additional ₹ 10 lakh.
Despite spending ₹48 million, the victim said his condition did not improve. Instead, recent medical tests have reportedly revealed kidney damage that doctors say may have been caused by hazardous substances in the products consumed.
When he confronted “Guruji”, he allegedly threatened him, claiming he needed more medication and warned him of “serious health consequences” if he discontinued treatment.
The victim sought strict legal action against “Vijay Guruji” and the owners of Vijayalakshmi Ayurvedic Store for cheating and threatening him, providing harmful substances and causing serious health complications.
The police have registered a complaint and started further investigation.
