
A software engineer in Bengaluru has filed a police complaint alleging that he was almost defrauded by a self-proclaimed healer and Ayurveda shop owner. ₹48 lakh by selling overpriced and potentially harmful drugs for the treatment of sexual health, which later led to kidney damage.
The man demanded strict legal action against “Vijay Guruji”, the owner of Vijayalaxmi Ayurvedic shop. An FIR was lodged on Saturday under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and investigations are on.
According to the FIR, the victim started facing sexual health problems after her marriage in 2023 and was treated at a multi-specialty hospital in Kengeri.
In early May, a man came across an ad for “quick solutions to sexual problems”. He met a man who directed him to “Vijay Guruji” and claimed he could provide a cure.
Guruji is said to have examined the victim and recommended an Ayurvedic medicine called Devaraj Booti, saying it was only available at his shop and at a cost. ₹1,60,000 per gram.
The victim was instructed to pay in cash and avoid online transactions. The victim, trusting the healer, bought the medicine and later got another product, Bhavan Booti oil, at the cost of ₹76,000 per gram. During the following weeks he spent ₹17 lakhs for various medicines as directed by Guruji.
According to the FIR, Guruji later insisted that the victim needed to buy another Devaraj Booti, warning that the previous treatment would not work otherwise. To comply, the victim took a ₹20 million loan from the bank to buy 18 grams of the drug.
In addition, he was convinced to buy another product, Devaraj Rasabooti, at a price of u ₹2,60,000 per gram, loan ₹10 million from a friend. In total, he claims to have spent around ₹48 thousand in ayurvedic shop.
Despite following the treatment exactly as instructed, the victim saw no improvement and eventually developed kidney damage, believed to be caused by the medication.
When he confronted Guruji about his condition, he was threatened, with Guruji warning that stopping the treatment could worsen his health and endanger his life.
