In a shocking killing spree in Bengaluru, a 52-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and six members of her family over a family dispute, senior police officers said.

The accused, identified as Indushekar, a taxi driver, was arrested by the Rajajinagar police.

The murders are believed to have taken place between October 16 and November 3, with bodies dumped at several locations on the outskirts of the city, including one near the foothills of the Nandi Hills in Chickballapur.

The incident came to light after a family member of one of the deceased filed a missing complaint at the Srirampur police station. A subsequent investigation led to Indushekhar’s arrest and his statements revealed a series of gruesome murders that allegedly took place at his house near Bhashyam Circle in Rajajinagar in north Bengaluru.

The deceased was identified as Indushekhar’s wife Sunita (40); his mother-in-law Roopavathi (65); his two brothers-in-law Shivakumar (30) and Shankar (44); their wives Divya (30) and Nalini (29) and Shivakumar’s son Puneeth (7). The murders were allegedly carried out on different occasions after he invited family members to his house on different days. Police are investigating the claims.

According to preliminary investigation, Indushekhar allegedly used a grinding stone to kill the victims. The murders are said to have started with the murder of his wife and mother-in-law. The accused then invited other victims to his house, where he allegedly committed the murders. According to a police source, he said he had been planning the murders for several months and decided to carry them out after his mother-in-law visited his home in mid-September.

“He alleged that his mother-in-law and her family abused him and often interfered in family matters. Even during the visit in September, his mother-in-law allegedly abused him repeatedly, which angered the accused,” a source told The Hindu.

Meanwhile, the police are investigating where the bodies were dumped and what help the accused received.
